BIOGRAPHY
Jean Martin nicknamed Raven is a Quebecer born in 1951. After graduating from Concordia University (BFA) and the Villa Maria Institute of Fine Arts, he did an internship at the GRAFF workshop. Winner in 1988 of the Duchamp-Villon first prize, Jean Martin (Raven) already has to his credit, more than fifty group exhibitions and a dozen solo exhibitions in prestigious places such as the Maison de la culture Notre-Dame-de-Grâce and the Maison de la culture Côte-des-Neiges. His art can be found in many public and private collections in Canada. Multidisciplinary artist whose works include: sculpting, painting, collages, poetry and writing, Jean Martin RAVEN sets his sights on the city, and this urban poacher is on the lookout for all the images stuck on the walls or any object that could be used to make his sculptures. All these objects will find themselves inscribed in his work process, he appropriates them with rigor and then he intertwines and assembles them into his works. In his Metagraphic poetry we find the influence of the street rap language which is for the urban poacher his primary source of inspiration.
